In this case, fill a bucket with ice and cold water so that the feet are covered. Leave aching feet in the bucket for 20 minutes or less. Remove if feet start to feel numb.
- Rest & Elevation: Simply resting and staying off of your feet can provide relief for some cases of foot and ankle pain. Avoiding overuse or strenuous physical activities commonly results in improvement.Elevation is another easy and effective home treatment. While remaining in a relaxed position, simply elevate the feet a little above the heart level to decrease the flow of excess fluids to the feet and reduce pain and swelling.
- Massage: In some cases, such as exercise or wearing ill-fitting shoes, massage can be used to relieve discomfort and ache. However, this is not a suitable form of treatment for injured feet without a doctor’s evaluation. But in milder situations, applying lotion and then rubbing your knuckles into the foot can ease the pain.
